Nancy & Manfred developed a passion for food and wine early on. While living abroad for many years, 11 of them were in Italy, they studied the different aspects of how food, wine, spirits and other beverages work in harmony. They became associated with the Slow Food movement in the early stage of its conception and with other organizations to foster the knowledge of specialties like Grappa, Pasta, Cheese, Olive Oil, and Vegetables.
Manfred dove deeper into oenology, wine & food pairing, and marketing of wine at the Seminario Permanente Luigi Veronelli, and in 1993 got certified as a Sommelier by the Accademia Italiana Maestri Sommeliers (AIMS), while Nancy obtained her Wine Diploma at the same time. Manfred is also an Associate of AIS (Associazione Italiana Sommelier) and accredited by the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS-AC).
Throughout their frequent voyages, Nancy & Manfred had the opportunity to discover and learn about the wines and food of different regions in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Portugal.
Moving back from Europe to North America in the late 90s, they got inspired to experience the thriving wine culture of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys and upcoming developments in the Niagara Region and Okanagan Valley. At the Summerland Research & Development Centre, Nancy & Manfred learned more about the prospects of growing grapes and establishing a winery as well as how to market the outcome.
Today, Nancy & Manfred are exploring their new Nova Scotia habitat with a rising wine industry in the Annapolis Valley, and are devoted to broadening the knowledge about the world of wine.
They host Wine Demystified Wine Tasting & Food Pairing events and workshops.
